GOV'T DENIES RANSOM

The News in Brief

POOH'S CORNER, Monday (Gazette) -- The Grade A Prime Minister of Pooh's Corner today denied reports that a full ransom had been paid for the safe return of Piglet, captured Wednesday by the S.A.R.F.P.

The S.A.R.F.P., from its jungle hideout, released a statement denying any "so-called 'Dawn Raid'" and claiming that the release of Piglet had occurred in accordance with the ransom requirements.

The S.A.R.F.P. called any intervention by Piglet's baby companion, Trixie, "incoherent ramblings by a government desperate to conceal the fact that it [had] paid a ransom" -- such an act being contrary to its stated position on kidnap negotiations.

In support of its statement, the S.A.R.F.P. released these photos, purporting to be of the ransom amount. The presence in the photos of the esteemed diplomatic envoy, Critter, would seem to lend credence to the S.A.R.F.P.'s claims.

A full commission, headed by Madame Ladybug (D-NY) has been empaneled to investigate these claims.
