Horton Hears a Huh?

I took my sanity in my hands and took both of 'em (solo) to the 4:20 pm show of Horton Hears a Who this afternoon. Surprisingly, no one puked, screamed in fear, or wet themselves. Popcorn was eaten, hands were held and at last a director finally managed to sit on Jim Carrey so he didn't make me want to hunt him down with a trank gun. Thumbs up!

AND, stunningly, both of 'em ate dinner (after all that late popcorn) took a fun bath, and were out by 8:20 pm. I am a ROCK STAR. And full of hubris, so I'll probably be up at 2 am, 4 am, and 5 am, for my pride.

On the WW front, I lost 5.2 pounds in the first week, then missed two meetings in a row, during which time my grandmother died and I had to attend a business trip in Phoenix on the heels of her funeral. Let's just say it wasn't my best two weeks of managing the points system.

However, based on Grandma's scale, I did lose another 5 pounds in that second week, so if I didn't gain all ten back eating for four in Phoenix, then I'll still be ahead of the game on Weds when I finally get to weigh in again. The thing I can't figure out is: I bought a 12-week series of meetings, so do the two I missed get tacked on to the end or is it you-missed-'em-too-bad, as it would be if it were, say, a class. I guess I'll find out on Wednesday.

Running the numbers

So, I've finally joined Weight Watchers. I've come to the realization that I really need outside accountability in order to stick to something, and all the online tools in the world aren't going to get me to put down the donut. Luckily, there's a group that meets at my office at lunchtime, once a week, and they've finally opened up for new registration. I had my first meeting last Wednesday and have been doing the "points" plan.

I have decided to post here about things and maybe track changes as they occur, etc. This will hardly be interesting to anyone else, so feel free to drop this bookmark any time.

So, first weigh-in was 245.2 lbs, meaning I have a daily points allowance of 29, plus weekly 35 points to be used over the week or in one fell swoop.

I had two work-related dinners this week, so have used much of the weekly points covering the massive shortfall on those dinners-out days. However, today I managed to hit the numbers right on the nose! Go me!

One thing I liked that the leader said, was that you should eat ALL the points you're alloted, each day. That trying to be under on your daily points, thinking you will lose weight faster, is actually a bad idea, as you will likely lose weight TOO fast and then have it come right back on the minute you can't sustain it. It made a lot of sense to me. As you lose weight, your daily points number will be re-set lower, so you will gradually decrease anyway.

The other interesting point is that activity can "buy back" points. So two hours of karate (high intensity exercise) netted me a whopping 13 points! I can look forward to some indulgent brunches on karate Saturdays, I can see.
