Last night Bailey was asleep (early) and it was not quite Trixie's bedtime. Josh and I were sitting on the couch, him reading a magazine, me reading a paperback. Trixie came over with her copy of "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" and said, "I want to read with you guys!" while climbing up to sit between us with her book.
It was like someone had distilled everything I'd looked forward to in
having a family into one moment. People to READ WITH!
I suppose some people envision their family someday gathered together 'round the holiday table or the TV on SuperBowl Sunday, but I've never been able to put my finger on what I thought would be a great "family moment." But there it was.
YES!!
A similar moment for me was when we lived in family housing @ UNH. I came home from somewhere to find the TV on, but both of you ignoring it and READING! A literate parent's dream.
I'm sure there will be many more of these family moments for you, especially when Trixie and Bailey learn to read. (I can already picture Trixie reading to Bailey.)
