We went to a friend's third birthday party recently, which was held at a local pirate-ship-themed playground, with a big climbable ship-shape and lots of sprinklers, and it was lots of fun, (mad props to the parents for bringing an enormous jug of coffee for all of us) but I do have one bit of advice:
Nemo-shaped pinatas? Bad idea.
As the main entertainment centerpiece of the party, one of the parents put a fish hat on his head, and led the kids around the playground looking for Nemo. [Ed note: I'm guessing the birthday girl has seen "Finding Nemo" but uh, we haven't shown it to Trixie.]
And then, what do they do when they've found Nemo?
They beat him to death with sticks!
Several of the kids cried when he fell down and burst open, and Trixie turned to me with eyes the size of dinner plates to say solemnly, "Nemo popped." We could see the thought processes ticking away in her head...
Even the mom who threw the party was having second thoughts about it, probably because the rest of us were standing around snickering...
